Mountain View, Calif … Based on its recent analysis of the world power distribution unit (PDU) market, Frost & Sullivan has recognized Eaton Corporation with the 2008 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Market Penetration Leadership in recognition of the company’s successful business improvement. This award is in relation to Eaton’s business expansion due to increased PDU sales through the strategic acquisition of Aphel Technologies Limited and Pulizzi Engineering.
Acknowledged globally as a leader in electrical systems and components for power quality, distribution and control, Eaton continuously looks for product innovation and implementation of new strategies. The acquisition strategy has allowed Eaton to gain market share in the world PDU market, increase sales mainly in the rackmount PDU segment, and penetrate new vertical markets, such as government and industrial.
“These acquisitions gave Eaton the opportunity to broaden its power quality and distribution offerings worldwide and to provide products with advanced technology to its customers,” says Frost & Sullivan industry manager, Vishal Sapru. “Data center power and cooling products are becoming an important factor in an increasingly global marketplace and the combined product portfolio has allowed Eaton to serve many new international markets including Europe and Australia.”
In April 2007, Eaton acquired Aphel, a UK-based company recognized as an important supplier of high-density, fault-tolerant power distribution solutions for data centers, technical offices, laboratories and retail environments worldwide. In June of the same year, Eaton announced the acquisition of Pulizzi, a company located in Santa Ana, California. Pulizzi is acknowledged as a strong competitor in the power distribution and remote management market and offers redundant power, remote power control, environmental monitoring and power distribution solutions. This acquisition allowed Eaton to penetrate verticals such as government agencies.
Since Eaton manufactures products in multiple locations, it offers PDU products to fulfill each region’s power needs. Furthermore, in order to meet servers’ ever-increasing demand for power, the company offers a wide range of PDUs with advanced technology that has been incorporated into the product line.
Eaton’s enclosure-based power distribution units are designed for both data center Information Technology (IT) environments and industrial applications, while meeting global safety standards. Eaton ePDU® products give the option of circuit breaker or individual outlet protection and include models with a variety of power inputs and outputs to fit most power requirements. The products provide the highest density solution to data center applications and can be manufactured with custom arrangements of outlets for every geographic region.
Eaton’s PDU offerings include products such as the Eaton Power Distribution Rack (PDR) that is designed for high-density racks. This product offers monitoring options, including the Eaton Energy Management System and optional branch circuit monitoring in order to manage and monitor power down to individual circuits. Eaton also has products that provide reliable data center power distribution for both raised and non-raised floor applications.
Constant innovation along with the strategic acquisitions has improved Eaton’s position in the world PDU market. During 2006 and 2007, the company demonstrated a better performance than competing vendors. These factors make Eaton the worthy recipient of the 2008 Frost & Sullivan Market Penetration Leadership Award.
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated excellence in capturing market share within their industry. The award lauds strategic excellence in product innovation, marketing and sales strategies that have resulted in the largest gain in market share over the past 2-3 years.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development.
