Latest Eaton Thought Leadership White Paper Provides Insight on Mitigating the Dangers of Arc Flashes

Eaton today announced the release of its latest thought leadership white paper, titled, “What You Need to Know About Arc Flashes.” Each month, Eaton power experts deliver content addressing critical issues facing customers and industry partners in today’s information technology (IT) environments. In this paper, Eaton emphasizes the importance of understanding and mitigating the dangers of data center electrical explosions.

Arc flashes, the fiery explosions that can result from short circuits in high-power electrical devices, kill hundreds of workers in the U.S. every year and permanently injure thousands more. They can also have intense financial repercussions in the form of fines, lawsuits and facility damage. Yet, many data center operators are perilously unfamiliar with both the causes of arc flash events and the serious dangers they pose.

This white paper aims to fill that knowledge gap by providing background on what arc flashes are; why they’re so hazardous; and what steps data center managers should take to protect their employees, infrastructure, and productivity.

“Though no combination of countermeasures can totally eliminate arc flashes, IT and facilities managers are fortunate that there are a wide range of proven technologies and techniques that can dramatically mitigate arc flash dangers,” explained John Collins, segment manager, Data Centers, Eaton Corporation. “By utilizing the solutions and strategies discussed in this white paper, organizations can reduce the chances of arc flash incidents and prepare personnel to respond if they do occur.”
