Eaton Wins “Best of VMworld 2013” Gold Award in Virtualization Management Category and Takes Best of Show for its Intelligent Power Manager Software

September 5, 2013 … During VMworld 2013, the global conference for virtualization and cloud computing, Eaton’s Intelligent Power™ Manager (IPM) software won the “Best of VMworld 2013” Gold Award in the Virtualization Management category. In addition, IPM received Best of Show recognition, beating more than 200 nominees and 160 products on display at the event.

The “Best of VMworld 2013” Awards recognize the most innovative and high-performing products in the server virtualization, cloud computing and end-user computing markets. TechTarget’s™ commissioned a team of expert judges consisting of editors, independent analysts, users and consultants to independently review and evaluate the products based on innovation, value, performance, reliability and ease of use.

“Eaton’s ‘Best of VMworld 2013’ Award in the ‘Virtualization Management’ category, amplified by the ‘Best of Show’ recognition, further validates Eaton as an industry leader in providing power management solutions that integrate seamlessly with virtual platforms,” said Hervé Tardy, vice president and general manager, Distributed Power Quality Division, Eaton. “Eaton will continue to innovate and build on the existing capabilities of Intelligent Power Manager software to maintain business continuity.”

Eaton’s VMware Ready™ IPM software is the first in the industry to allow for the prioritization and sophisticated load-shedding of virtual machines (VMs) and servers. Upon detection of a power event, Eaton’s IPM will suspend or shut down VMs as configured using VMware’s Distributed Power Manager application, or by configuring maintenance mode and shutdown of ESXi hosts. This process is designed to reduce battery drain to extend the available backup time for IT and data center managers. IPM can also trigger a planned migration of VMs to a backup site using VMware’s Site Recovery Manager.

Eaton’s IPM directly integrates with the VMware vCenter Server management platform, enabling users to administer backup power assets and receive real-time alerts within the same dashboard they use to manage their physical and virtual servers.
