Training and safety protocols
In addition to equipment specific training certifying field technicians to work on particular UPS models, they receive classroom style training that includes standards review (OSHA, NFPA 70E, ANSI, etc.), group case studies, demonstrations, and competency observation and testing.
In addition, a safety council of experts addresses issues and complicated safety questions that arise in the field.
Eaton’s Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team receives unequivocal management support in promoting safety, even when it costs Eaton more and/or exceeds industry standards.
The EHS team works with the engineers who design the UPSs to drive safety further upstream in the power chain. For example, rather than a field technician donning protective gear to do voltage readings, they can now be taken remotely, with no risk to the engineer.
Eaton constantly strives to design more elements to reduce exposure and improve safety—as well as making UPSs easier and faster to service.
