New Eaton Protection Station Saves Up To 30 Percent Of Energy Consumed By Idle Electronics

GRENOBLE, France …Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced the introduction of the Eaton Protection Station, formerly part of the MGE Office Protection Systems family. The Protection Station is the first all-in-one uninterruptible power system (UPS), surge suppressor and multi-socket device. It can save up to 30 percent of power consumed by idle peripherals. This innovative UPS provides plug-and-play power and surge protection to home computers, gaming consoles and audio-video (AV) equipment.

The Protection Station is designed to save energy and costs through its unique EcoControl function. EcoControl automatically disables peripherals when the master device, such as a computer, high-definition TV or digital AV equipment, is turned off. By automatically turning off peripherals that are normally left on standby, such as multifunction printers, AV equipment and loud-speakers, users can save up to 30 percent of energy normally consumed by stand-by electronics. Due to its EcoControl function and its exceptional environmental benefits, the Protection Station has received Eaton's "Green Leaf Solution" label, a designation that represents Eaton’s commitment to documented environmental performance to customers, consumers and communities.

"Offering new products with high value-add like the Protection Station supports Eaton’s environmental policy. Eaton is fully committed to developing innovative technologies that help customers use power more efficiently, effectively and safely," said Jorma Mannerkoski, general manager, sales and services EMEA, Eaton Power Quality.

The Protection Station’s 500VA, 650VA and 800VA models are designed to protect Internet and multi-media personal computers (PCs), gaming consoles and peripherals against damaging power surges, voltage fluctuations, lightning strikes and blackouts. Equipped with eight standard outlets (500VA model includes six outlets) and replaceable batteries, the Protection Station can provide up to 30 minutes of battery backup for a typical PC.

The Protection Station 650 and 800 VA units include:

  • 8-sockets compatible with standard plugs
  • Compliant with lightning standards (IEC 61 643-1)
  • USB port and power management software
  • Flexible positions - Unit can be placed upright or flat
  • PLC-ready socket compatible with PLC adapter
  • Protection of Internet/ADSL line
  • Regular battery test and replacement indicator
