Stefan Coote is tackling the challenges of data centre efficiency with the best tools on the market. He has recently joined Eaton as a Product Marketing Manager for Data Centre Solutions (DCS) in EMEA.

What makes data centres so interesting?

The biggest issue for data centres right now is efficiency. The cost of running a data centre has escalated massively, and producing ‘green’ efficient and environmentally friendly data centres is becoming much more important to managers.

Data centre managers are also taking more control of the power that is going into servers, which is why the technology in Powerware ePDUs® (enclosure Power Distribution Units) is so important. Being able to monitor the power at either ePDU or individual outlet level is becoming highly important as server power demands increase. Monitoring the power allows accurate load balancing and greater control of power consumption. It also allows data centre managers to make informed decisions about the operational effectiveness of their equipment.

How do Eaton’s Data Centre Solutions address these challenges?

We provide tools to drive enhancement in the data centre: technology and real solutions for today’s green data centre. Eaton is producing highly efficient equipment in its DCS product range; for example, a 60KW N+1 Powerware BladeUPS solution can pay for itself over a five year period in cooling savings alone.

Eaton offers the total power quality solutions for data centres in the EMEA region, including Powerware BladeUPS, ePDUs, racks, and the environmental rack monitor. This solution is specifically designed for the data centre environment. We want to provide a best-in-class solution that gives exceptional value to our customers whilst also being highly functional and 100 percent reliable.

What is Eaton’s history with Data Centre Solutions?

Eaton’s Data Centre Solutions Business Unit began in 2005 when we were providing OEM PDUs alongside our large-scale UPS systems. We have undergone aggressive growth both via product development such as the modular Powerware BladeUPS system, which was developed purely with the green data centre in mind, and through acquisition such as ePDU businesses to give us a broad product and manufacturing footprint. We have grown the business to include our own localised manufacturing in Europe, Asia and the USA. This global strategy gives us the ability to customise solutions and give local support to our customers.

What makes Eaton such a strong partner when building a data centre?

DCS provides reliable and flexible products specifically designed for the data centre environment. We have technology leadership, global reach and the manufacturing capability to support that global reach.
