Perform a Diagnostic Test on a UPS

Use Test Hardware to perform diagnostic system and battery tests on a UPS. The system test verifies that internal UPS circuitry is functioning properly. The battery test verifies that all of the UPS batteries are functioning properly.

To perform a UPS diagnostic test

  1. On the Diagnostics menu, click Test Hardware.
    The Test Hardware dialog box appears.
  2. Click the System Test or Battery Test tab.
  3. Click Test....
    The diagnostic test is run.
  4. At any time during the test or after the test is performed, click the Results button to update the result field.
  5. The status of the procedure is shown in the status column. If the test has not yet completed, you can close the dialog box and return later for the results.

To get diagnostic test results only

  1. Click the Results button.

Diagnostics status


Test passed The diagnostic test performed on the UPS has passed the battery or hardware test.
Test aborted The UPS has aborted the diagnostic test.
Test failed The diagnostic test performed on the UPS has failed the battery and hardware test.
Test scheduled A diagnostic test has been scheduled to occur on the UPS.
Test in progress A diagnostic test is currently being performed on the UPS.
UPS busy A diagnostic test could not be performed on the UPS because the UPS is busy.
Not Tested No diagnostic test has been performed on the UPS.
Access denied The password used to gain access to the UPS's Controller was incorrect.

Consult your UPS manual as necessary.


Some UPSs take longer to run a diagnostic test than others. Some UPSs schedule diagnostics to run at a future time (up to thirty days in the future).

Performing a diagnostic test on a UPS places additional stress on the battery, shortening the lifetime of the battery. Perform diagnostic tests only when necessary.
